If you’re planning a trip out to the Sacramento Delta and find yourself in need of a hot meal and a cold beverage, there is a place I know where you’ll find that and much more. The place is called Freeport Bar & Grill and it is located about seven and a half miles outside the downtown Sacramento area. This family owned and operated bar and grill has been serving up hot meals and cold beer for about fifteen years.
Upon entering, the restaurant has a full bar for ordering up your favorite adult beverage with a small dining area. Just past the bar is the kitchen area and just beyond it is a main dining room with plenty of table and booth seating. Directly beyond the main dining room is a lush, beautiful, garden-like patio area filled with shade trees. The patio, featuring light 1950’s music playing in the background, is casual with patio-style tables and chairs and a low-key ambiance. Near the far end of the patio is a large water fountain and just beyond the fountain is an area suitable for events or gatherings, perfect for gatherings of about 20 or 30 people.
The breakfast menu features items such as omelets, crab Benedict and my personal favorite, chorizo and eggs. At lunch, the restaurant serves up appetizers, savory soups and salads, burgers and more. The dinner menu is ripe with American favorites such as entrée-size salads, chicken, ribs, and steaks. The dinnertime signature dish here is the rotisserie split-roasted chicken, served “Old fashioned style” with garlic mashed potatoes, corn bread dressing and chicken gravy. The chicken is moist and seasoned perfectly. The garlic mashed potatoes are creamy and loaded with garlic flavor. The corn bread dressing is just like Grandma used to make and the gravy is house-made, rich and flavorful.
The restaurant features a variety of beverages, including a number of local area wines and beers and offers up complimentary appetizers during their happy hour, which is held Monday through Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. On Fridays patrons can come by for karaoke night starting at 9:00 p.m. and ending at 1:30 a.m.
Freeport Bar & Grill is a great place to stop in when on your way to or from the Sacramento Delta area for a light snack and a beverage or a meal spent with the family and friends.
